Holy Friday is one of the most important dates of Catholics and Christians around the world. A moment of penance and silence. This is the only day of the liturgical year in which the mass is not celebrated in churches, as a sign of mourning for what Catholics consider Jesus on the cross. In an interview with Campo Grande NewsThe Metropolitan Archbishop of Campo Grande, Domas Lara Barbos, talked about the period, a conversation that takes place every year to cause reflection, remembering that the date goes beyond the holiday and shapes the Christian calendar, as we know.

Holy Friday is a key date for Catholics, marked by a lack of masses in relation to Jesus’ sacrifice. Dimas house Lara Barbos, Archbishop of Campo Grande, emphasizes Easter as a center of the Christian calendar, affecting dates such as carnival and Lent. Paschal Triduum begins with the mass of washing the feet and ends in the paschal watches, in which adults are baptized. Easter symbolizes the joy and resurrection, preceded by 40 days of Lent, the period of fasting and reflection. In Brazil, the brotherhood campaign concerns social topics, and 2024 focuses on “integral ecology”.

It is an invitation to the Church to internal silence, for penance, for introspection. Christian tradition understands that instead of words it is a day of listening to the heart, accompanying Jesus on the way to Goldars. And the Dimas house gives some tips on what should be analyzed today. “Easter is a time of joy, life, resurrection. The concentration of reflection is much more, living the lives of people who have been released, people who believe in the horizon who goes beyond our simple horizon here,” he notes.

Preparation for Easter occurs during 40 days of Lent, the period marked by masses and biblical readings that relate to the mystery of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. Like Christmas, the ceremony is preceded by the time of preparation.

“These are the times of internalization and preparation for a great party. Advent is preparing for Christmas and Easter, Easter is a period marked by post, penance, charity and prayer. But abstinence does not have to be meat or just play with people: to fast language, anger, lack of patience. Mercy.”

He also cites the works of temporary mercy, such as giving food to those who are hungry, visit prisoners and look after the sick; And spiritual, how to hear who must answer. “Many times people just want to: feel welcome,” he says.

Like Christmas, Easter also has an “extremely religious atmosphere”, according to Domas Dimas. “It even contributes to people a lot to return to faith in other ways.”

Brotherhood campaign – In Brazil, there has been a brotherhood campaign for over 60 years, an exclusive country’s initiative. Each year, a motive is chosen, often of social importance, but also of church importance. In 2024, the subject is “integral ecology”, with activities carried out throughout the country.

“The brotherly campaign is present from the condominium to populations on the Amazonas River. This is a specific way to convey to people reflection. It always focuses on Catholics, but the campaign is at universities, in city councils, in the sense of topics. Talking about public health, biomoms, ecology or upcoming violence is not only Catholic matter, says home.

Focusing on ecology, the archbishop comments that actions in the field of trees will be carried out, according to the direction of the town hall. The church even has duties related to Meadows (degraded plans to recover the area).

The Dimas house also remembers previous campaigns, such as the one that concerned violence. At that time, 11 thematic groups were created that approached various types of violence, such as women, elderly people, children, and caused specific actions. From this, the Archdiocese created listening groups in various parishes and a course for prevention of suicides, which he gained in national importance.

“Now, ending with a brotherly campaign, we will gather to see how specifically an ecological problem can be in our activities, in addition to the poems that we have to do, a proposal that has already appeared is to put the topic of ecology into the UCDB theology program, so that you create students, and especially future priests, with ecological awareness.

Dias Santos – The dates of the liturgical year are defined from Easter, which are celebrated in the first full moon in the Holy Land. In the case of Jews, this is a mobile date, while for Catholics the ceremony takes place on the first Sunday.

“The date of Easter is marked, the holy week is calculated, and more than 40 days of Lent, and then the carnival is achieved. Easter is the center for us, because it is the holiday of Christ’s victim: passion, death and resurrection,” explains the archbishop.

We are fully Paschal Triduum, three days, which begins on Saint Thursday, with washing feet, which reproduces the act before the death of Christ, and extends on Easter Sunday.

This year, that the brotherhood campaign talks about integral ecology, the indigenous community is the center of the ceremony. The archbishop presided over the celebration of Thursday (17), for example in the city village of água pound in Campo Grande. Already this Friday (18) participates in religious activities in rural areas in Corguinho, in the Taboco district.

Holy Friday is marked by the ceremony of Christ’s passion, usually taking place at 15 hours. The holiday will take place in several churches of the capital. At the moment, the faithful will read in detail the passion according to Saint. John and conduct meditative prayers on this subject.

On Saturday (19) Christmas Eve Pascal is celebrated, considered by Domas to be the main one. “This is a long mass, usually about three hours, a few readings, and in it usually baptisms of adults are performed. From there, Easter time begins,” he explains.
