The federal vice Dude Salabert (PDT-MG) said on Wednesday (16) who had the entrance visa in the United States which was issued with the male marker, even after presenting Brazilian official documents that recognize their female gender.
The case is similar to that reported by the Federal Vice-Erika Hilton (Psol-SP), and both point out institutional transophobia by the US government.
In a social network publication, Salabert reported that he had been invited to participate in a development course for early childhood in collaboration with Harvard University. At the time of the renewal of the dilapidated visa, it was informed by the US authorities that the new document would give gender designation as “masculine”, under the motivation that its gender identity is “general knowledge”.

“My gender identity, legally recognized by the Brazilian state, would simply be ignored. This is more than transphobia: it is a respect for Brasil’s sovereignty and the most basic human rights,” Parliament wrote.
Deputy said she was dealing with Itamaraty to solve the situation with diplomatic paths. According to her, the goal is to ensure that gender identity recognized in official documents, such as her birth certificate and passport, is respected internationally.

Salabert also expressed solidarity with his colleague Erika Hilton, who met a similar situation when he tried to travel to the United States to attend an event at the Harvard Brazil conference. Both are part of Congress’s trans bench and report that the Trump Government’s policy promotes exclusion and adversity in LGBTQIA+persons’ rights.
“This decision by the US government is, unclear, discriminatory,” concluded Salabert.
