Anatel releases Starlink, by Elon Musk, to put 7.5 thousand satellites in the country

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) was approved on Tuesday 8, Starlink’s request to start another 7,500 satellites in the country’s course. Elon Musk’s company already had 4,400 satellites in operation and will now reach 11,900 units, which should strengthen its leadership in the fast Internet segment of satellites.

The decision by Anatel’s Board of Directors took place through a deliberate circuit vote away from the limelight. The theme had been placed on the agenda at the Board’s regular meeting last week, but had the request for analysis that was postponed for up to 120 days at the request of the process’s reporter, counselor Alexandre Freire. However, Freire decided to reveal his voice in a consideration in the virtual system of the agency.

Anatel’s approval occurred unanimously. With this, the regulatory body fully followed with Starlink’s choice to change the exploration right that already existed in fashion, and extended the number of units in the track and frequency areas used for Internet signal transfer. The license change will cost R $ 102,000 to the company in Musk and will be valid until 2027.

The approval happened by the standard for other satellite internet companies in Brazil, which had asked Anatel to reject Starlink’s request due to track traffic jams and interference, given the significant increase in the number of satellites, as well as the use of new frequencies.

In response to this intensification in the commercial breed in the track, Anatel issued a “regulatory warning”, which informs society that it will update the current normative framework due to the identified risks. Among other measures, it was stipulated that the telecommunications infrastructure committee and Anatel’s spectrum and circulation committee should quickly promote technical discussions and in the highest studies to support regulatory efficiency with regard to international guidelines, efficiency in spectrum use, network security, network security and competition.

“Although we unanimously granted Starlink’s satellite news rights to increase the number of satellites and the authorization of the frequency area, as well as updating the associated network, this case made it clear to me the restrictions on current regulation to offer sufficient answers to the complex questions that arise in this scenario,” said the report.
