Jaguar Land Rover interrupts exports to us after Trump’s tariff

British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover interrupts exports to the United States, the company said in a statement on Saturday. According to the company, one of the UK’s largest car manufacturers, the break should occur later this month. The company said it is working to mitigate the effects of 25% tax on imported vehicles that will be adopted by Donald Trump’s government.

“The United States is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands,” the company said in a statement. “When we work to handle new commercial conditions with our business partners, we take some short -term measures, including a break on transport in April, when we developed our medium long -term,” the company said.

Market analysts estimate that the British automotive industry is strongly affected by new US customs, which occur at a time when British car manufacturers are trying to circumvent the case in domestic demand and meet the need to build their factories to the transition to electric vehicles.

“The industry is already facing several opposite winds and this announcement arrives at the worst possible time,” said the president of Britain’s manufacturer and Automobile Society (SSMT), Mike Hawes last week.

The number of cars manufactured in the UK fell 13.9% to 779 584 vehicles in 2024, according to SMMT. More than 77% of these vehicles were exported.

The vehicles are the most important well exported by the UK to the United States, with transport totaling US $ 10.7 billion in 12 months until September. British car manufacturers tried to circumvent Trump’s overpopulation by raising the increase in exports with the creation of warehouses on the US market before the customs progress. Car exports to the United States increased by 38.5% compared with the previous year in December, 12.4% in January and 34.6% in February, according to SSMT.
